Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) Acute Respiratory Management Program

The Acute Respiratory Management Program at Texas NeuroRehab Center is supervised by our on-site, board-certified pulmonary disease physician. Individualized treatment plans, pulmonary management and frequent reassessment assure aggressive treatment and positive outcomes. The goal is to manage pulmonary disease along with other illnesses and control environmental factors. These services are offered on an inpatient basis.

Comprehensive Services

  • Daily physician-directed program with hands-on evaluation and patient care (24-hour nursing and direct care staffing)
  • Pulmonary Care team which includes a certified Pulmonary Disease Specialist physician,
    certified respiratory therapists and registered nurses
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
  • Advanced ventilator and tracheostomy treatments
  • On-site radiology
  • Evaluation of environmental factors that may affect pulmonary disease
  • Treatment of chronic and long term effects
  • Increased mobility with assistance of physical therapy staff and treatment team
  • Collaboration with referring professional by pulmonary physician
  • Patient and family education regarding self-care and prevention

TNC Outcomes

(Out of a sample size of 100 tracheostomy patients)

  • 90.1%-Successfully decannulated
  • 26.1 days-Total time to decannulation
  • 19.9 days-Trauma patients time to decannulation
  • 0.61% complications out of 1000 patient days in decannulated patients.

Laura Gilbey, MD, Medical Director

Dr. Laura Gilbey, Medical Director, is a full-time, on-site physician at Texas NeuroRehab Center. Dr. Gilbey directs the Acute Respiratory Management Program, coordinates the interdisciplinary care team and has extensive experience in critical care pulmonary treatments. Dr. Gilbey is board-certified in Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Disease.
