The goal of the program is to help patients with a brain and spinal cord injury reach the highest level of independence they can and prepare for returning to the community after their injury. An individualized plan is recommended by our physician and team of therapists and nurses to work towards patients and families’ goals. This may include functional training, bowel and bladder training, pre-vocational activities, and more. 

Patients admitted to this program must have a brain injury along with any of the following diagnosis’: 

  • Spinal Cord Injury 
  • Late onset complication of past spinal cord injury 
  • Additional diagnoses include: infectious myelitis, spinal cord tumors, infarcts, transverse myelitis, myelopathies due to spinal stenosis

Inpatient Services Include: 

  • Physician-directed program with hands on evaluation and patient care (Nursing and direct care staff on-site 24/7) 
  • Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Care Interdisciplinary Team includes: physical medicine and rehab physicians, neurologists, board-certified pulmonologist, board-certified wound care physician, psychiatrist, neuropsychologist, chaplain, case manager, therapists, dietitians and registered nurses
  • Coordination of care with community physician and appointments (transportation is provided)
  • Individualized treatment plan for each patient is adapted to the patient’s goals, personality and the community environment to which the patient and family will be discharged. 
  • Monthly treatment team meetings with patient and family/caregiver 
  • Case management and social work services, including patient and family counseling and support groups 
  • Semi-Private Suites with Private bedrooms 
  • Participation in intensive rehabilitation therapy program, including individual therapies, such as: physical, occupational, speech, vision, aquatic and recreational therapies 
  • Group and community re-entry therapeutic activities 
  • Radiology on-site
  • Meals catered to special dietary needs, with nutritional monitoring, including bolus tube feedings 
  • Bowel and bladder programming (bladder scanner on-site) 
  • Spasticity management (including nerve blocks, botox injections, and Baclofen® pump trials as needed
